Up North
Bill and I went to
Whitefish Pt. on Friday and then to Traverse City and Old Mission on Saturday
to distribute Bill's brother's ashes in the East Bay at the beach that the
family had a cottage near.
The wind and cold brought
snow in many places on our trip up and it took a while to melt in the UP.
We went out to see if the
Northern Lights were on display but the scattered clouds let loose pellets of
ice that made it hard to look up. Pretty amazing weather.
Lake Superior was getting
ready for the winds of November.
On November 10, 1975, the 729-foot steamer Edmund Fitzgerald was lost in an infamous Lake Superior storm near Whitefish Point, Michigan with her entire crew of 29 men. The Fitzgerald’s story has become a popular legend through a song by Canadian folksinger Gordon Lightfoot – and the cause of her loss remains a mystery forty years later.
The weather quieted down a
bit by Sunday morning to get out to Old Mission Peninsula. Colors were gorgeous and you should have good weather, Alice.
On the dock at Haserot
Beach, on Swaney Rd., to distribute some of Jim's ashes. The rest were buried
at the Veterans cemetery in Kalamazoo this summer.
I want to plant the seeds and try to grow some
Paw Paw trees. The fruit tastes a lot like papaya!

It looked so beautiful there, but I know it was cold. It should be in the 50's tomorrow there. Bill is trying to get in his 1000 miles on his bike for this year.
Rich called and said the service for Walt is on Thurs., so we will miss it. He had cancer, but would go and work at the downtown church when they would pick him up.
Sure is picturesque out there. Always loved the old mission peninsula. I guess last weekend was not the best to be there. We got down to about 39 degrees by early morning, but no snow. We're back up to almost 80 tomorrow.
Didn't know Walt had cancer. So sorry for Rich losing another piece of his family.
Where did you get the seeds from?
